Spike Lee or Tyler Perry?  Simple question and I'm curious who people think makes better movies?  Base it on whatever you like, I'm curious how we all will weight in on the subject?

First of all let me say that I do not hate gays, or gay people, but I do not support gay marriage in any shape way or form. I am a Christian and I wont support anything that God says is wrong, but I dont expect everyone to agree with me on that. I can agree to disagree, and not force anything on people. As far as the law goes, If you remove GOD from law, yes I can understand people having there rights to do what they please. Now as a believer, I don't care anything about rights if it does not please GOD. I keep hearing people say that there are more sins than homosexuality, but does that mean that you are suppose to support it. I do a lot of things wrong, but I am not going to stand up and support someone else that wants to do the same thing. I dont expect a crack addict to stand up and say that they should make crack legal so everyone can do it. Whats next to get pushed in peoples f...    less

While we are directing are anger on ourselves, we fail to check the real source of our trouble. You're right that we need to organize from the grass roots up. The top seems to be only concerned with themselves or have sold out. I think we do need to show a presence in the occupy movement and we need to soak up some of their resolve and bring it back home to the hood. The important lesson to learn from the 99% is that it's important to recognize that we have strength in numbers. What they can learn from us, is that without us they're down to 79%. The timing is important, the occupy movement is protected partly by the fact that western governments have been preaching so hard about these Arab leaders attacking their own people, that they would look like total hippocrites to get ...    less

I am not a supporter of the death penalty and feel it should be stricken from the books. We are the only western civilization with the death penalty still on the books and I think it ought to be removed. We are in company with Iraq, Iran and other countries that have a history of violating human rights. This and I feel that to dispense the ultimate punishment, that should be reserved to God only, not to man. That and I don't feel that a jury of black people should have handed down such harsh punishment to a fellow black man. They should have looked at the punishment that was being proposed and done whatever it took to ensure that their brother didn't receive that punishment. It's the reason I could never be on a jury, I'd always consider one innocent and like Chapelle, the amount of "proof" I'd need would be similar to the Robert Kelly skit, "I'd need his grandmother there saying it was him, 2 pieces of id, a sworn testimony from his parents..."  less

They implies them and not I, or else he would have said "we are still in his corner." This means that he's singling himself out either from the black voter base, or from the black community. Either way, he's talk to us and not with us. I think the reason the president speaks as such to us (black people, since I'm one of us) is because we are family. What he's doing is what many of us who are professionals do, he's tailoring his message to the audiance. Obama is telling the rest of America what they need to hear, yet telling the members of his family and those he looks to for support, "hey ya'll, I need you to get my back and help me with this shit."  less

I spent many hours on the block. I made a great deal of money as well. I didn't sell crack ever, it's a destructive substance that destroys not just the user, but the community, by I made quite a bit selling pot. The moment I had other options, I got rid of my scales and started using baggies for my lunch. Too many times we get interested in the quick money, but we don't have sense enough to make that money work for us. That's true both on the block and in the system. We don't have a saving plan or a spending strategy for our money. We earn and spend at the same rate and never put anything away. While I was hussling, I put away a quarter of every hundred dollars I made for the time when I had to get out. I had about 25 grand in savings so when I transitioned to a job, I had enough in savings that the missing cash wasn't an issue. No matter what you do in this life, you have to go into with a plan and prepare for what happens....    less

We need to get past the surface image and get deeper into who someone is. I have always said this, a first glance can get a yes in the great question, "is someone attractive." However upon peeling back the layers, that yes can become a no. And once a yes has moved to a no, it's generally permanent. However on the same foot, an initial no can become a yes as well, and once that happens, it's because if at first glance someone isn't what I think is attractive, once I speak to them a bit, then I find that they are truly beautiful and that yes is stuck.  less

I've fought many times in the past over various situations as a young adult and child. I avoid confrontations that are of that nature these days. My grandpa always used to say, "you can hear an empty wagon coming from a mile away while one carring a full load don't make no noise." My parents were tough and not nearly as fair as I am and I still love them. I didn't always like them growing up, but I respected their presence enough to act right. I'm opting for respect and will not be disrespected by a child no matter who their parents are. I've stopped being friends with some people because of their little bad a** kids and the fact that they don't do anything to control the little heathens. It's terrible when a persons kids respect me, a virtual stranger more than their parents.  less

Many times we aren't raising our children into product members of society because we aren't raising them at all, we are just watching them grow. We should stop watching them grow and focus on raising our kids to be good people!

I'm not abusive by any means, and I'm not overly hard on my son, however when he steps across that line, and the line being defying my word, then I will spank his butt! I've had friends who critized me and asked, "don't you know you're only teaching him to react physically to situations instead of finding another way," and I kindly remind them that even in America there are places where that is how people react. Let's face it, if he's not afraid of breaking my rules, then he won't have any fear of breaking societies laws. If he breaks enough of societies laws, then he'll end up behind bars, and that is a truly physical environment, where it's truly the biggest and strongest who rule.  less

We have to look at the society that we allow to exist.  Our children will look up to what we allow them to look up to.  My father, even while I listened to gangsta rap in it's inception, let me know that the man I grew into was not to be determined by the lyrics I heard, nor by what my friends became, but that my path in life was my own and could only be walked by me.  It took an early arrest for me the see the truth.  They separated my boys and myself and I was alone awaiting my fate.  We were let go because we weren't doing anything, but that illustrated a point I had heard my own life, I have to be my own man.  less

Due to that fact, we create a villain out of someone's hero. We must teach our kids to want to become more. They have to learn to express their outrage, to survive in their situation, but to always want to transcend that situation to become bigger than what they are currently today. Whenever did we develop into a community where no one wants to become greater than their idols? We just have to hone it to make the youth want to "turn their dirty money to clean," as it were. As I tell my own kids, "there is no growth without change." The very act of growing involves change.  less

There needs to be a time when people listen and change the way things are. "F*ck the police" was an anthem because it gave voice to the problems that we face with police brutality. It is time for America to change and realize its wrongs. Indeed, this was a missed opportunity.

in the topic Troy Davis and the Death Sentence in the forum What do you think about the Troy Davis Case
I also feel deeply saddened by this case. It's the reason I could never be on a jury, I'd always consider one innocent and like Chapelle, the amount of "proof" I'd need would be similar to the Robert Kelly skit, "I'd need his grandmother there saying it was him, 2 pieces of id, a sworn testimony from his parents..."
