  • About Me 'm a Londoner, born to Nigerian/Yoruba parents Just back in London after spending.2 years in Holland, Europe. My husband is still over in Holland. Tying up the last pieces before we eventually migrate to his homeland of Commonwealth of Dominica, in the Caribbean. Used this time to take a 'time out' from my career as a counsellor. I am looking to self publish my book in the near future. Thus, placing me in FULL CONTROL and placing my own independence in writing and staying within the frameworks of my creativity. Blogging is part of my creativity. I try and be consistent with my blogging, but sometimes, LIFE takes over:) **Update** I have now moved to the Commonwealth of Dominica. In America, the civil rights movement is stuck. As I began reading the books and information, I was shocked that most of these writings from African American authors were dated back to the 1930's.  We have had such knowledge for so long on what the problem is.and we cover ourselves with this knowledge and no MOVEMENT or action is taken. Where is action instead of reaction? It is interesting that as you journey from the UK to the Caribbean, African people are still stuck. I pray you have a safe journey and I look forward to reading your future writings!  less

What about African, Caribbean, Latin and Afro-European literature? Our experiences will be always be limited if we take on the attitude of, nothing exists beyond our shores. Africans all over the world have so much to learn from and teach to, one another. First we'll have to acknowledge that we all fall under the category of Africans and we have to accept our family on the continent and the rest of the world and they'll have to accept us. There is an amazing amount of art being created all the time by US but if WE don't recognize it then we're losing our legacy. We all have to make more effort to develop ways to exchange and promote African arts among our fellow Africans and the rest of the world if we want to see our artists gain the recognition that they deserve.  less

Just venting a little, but I know all is not lost. I've heard rave reviews about Ernessa T. Carter's "32 Candles" Has anybody read it? You are so right!  I hate going into my local bookstore and walking over to the African American Lit section only to find Toni Morrison hidden behind 80000 copies of "Candy Licker" and "Welfare Wifeys".   Rotflmao!
