Personal Details

  • About Me I'm one of the many women of color who are pursuers of countless truths inherent in an array of issues. A good debate and the sharing of ideas and points of view can be intriguing as well as challenging. Mental Health Advocacy, Social Activism, Child Welfare, Senior Citizen Issues & Human Rights have been essential parts of my professional & personal pursuits. To maintain balance and down time-- reading, writing, observing, music, lighthouse touring, plays, concerts & cinema keep me grounded and contented.

It all ties in to the issue of plagarism and we've established that it isn't ethical to do so and what I get from this related subject matter is how we proactively deal with the issue by making sure we don't contribute to the problem. Cyberspace is a rather new frontier and policing others to make sure they don't plagarize is quite an enormous task. It can be equally difficult for many bloggers to take measures to ensure that their ideas or posts aren't copied by others. There are new developments as I write this response, however, to successfully end it may be a longer than anticipated goal. What I find in participating in these forums that civility encourages others to participate without being labeled as 'nuts' for how they choose to answer a question. Mr. Brown informs of how google is handling this matter and that's information worth sharing, however, he isn't throwing other folks under the ...    less

I'm compulsive about this issue and when I first began blogging; I made every effort to avoid any semblance of plagiarism. What I find is if you reference your sources and in cases where it's possible ask permission to use a quote on your blog; there is a mutual sharing of information and an increase in the number of visitors. Essentially,  what we all want is to be heard and the opinions of people matter although we don't always agree with them. There is a quote on my sidebar under pearls of wisdom which makes the latter statement very clear: "We cannot silence the voices that we do not like hearing. We can, however, do everything in our power to make certain that other voices are heard." ~Deborah Prothrow-Stith~ I really appreciate all the comments and points of views in this forum.  We share and we learn.  How great is that!!   Peace....    less

However, I must confess that there are so many now--it's difficult to analyze every situation. A safety net for me is to make sure that I give credit to blogs whose viewpoints are similar to mine. I quote statements and give due to credit to the source and if there is any indication that another blogger has written almost identical views; I post something else.

I think we are in the "town crier" stage of this case and during this period without any effective movement towards justice; folks tend to move on. We are so bombarded because of cyber-social media by these revelations of police brutality (Kenneth Chamberlain)and clueless vigilante type killings that it is easy to jump from one cause to another. It's a good thing but as with most good things there is or can be a down side. With your approval..I would like to post your comment on my sidebar under 'Quotes of the Week" as cited: " We as African Americans have to stop accepting responsibility for their hatred. We must keep it on the front burner, however, there is a case for saturation and desensitization. Other troubling aspects are the surfacing of skinheads and white racist groups who want to "patrol" Sandford and "protect" the so-called good white people from the Trayvon aftermath. These groups are looking for a catalyst to start this "race war" they've been promoting on their websites. The stalling and lengthy investigations by these agencies beg the question that, hopefully, people will move on to other pressing things and they can put this to rest without charging George Zimmerman. Why the pessimism and paranoia? The fact that he's walking around without charges 42 days later!!!  less

What about African, Caribbean, Latin and Afro-European literature? Our experiences will be always be limited if we take on the attitude of, nothing exists beyond our shores. Africans all over the world have so much to learn from and teach to, one another. First we'll have to acknowledge that we all fall under the category of Africans and we have to accept our family on the continent and the rest of the world and they'll have to accept us. There is an amazing amount of art being created all the time by US but if WE don't recognize it then we're losing our legacy. We all have to make more effort to develop ways to exchange and promote African arts among our fellow Africans and the rest of the world if we want to see our artists gain the recognition that they deserve.  less

    Posted May 18

"That's where I saw in the bars all of these men and women with what looked like the easiest life in the world.  Plenty of money, big cars, all of it.  I could tell they were in the rackets and vice.  I hung around these bars whenever I came in town and...

  • The Many Facets of Bullying Part 1

'Objectives of serial bullies are Power, Control, Domination and Subjugation'.   Bullying has been an integral part of the makeup of humankind since homes were the caves of Europe and palaces and huts in Africa.  Of late, we've re-visited this phenomenon among human beings with a clear...

I think it's a rather harsh assessment by you and Mr. Allen re: the responses to the forum question on plagarism. Mr. Brown informs of how google is handling this matter and that's information worth sharing, however, he isn't throwing other folks under the bus for their contribution. It is interesting (and, perhaps, a bit "nuts" as well)... how we can pontificate so on the wrong issue. The forum question is NOT about how to site sources, what we "should" properly do, as writers, when writing a post. It asks, "How Do You Deal With Copy Cat Bloggers?" Now, if we must pontificate, can we PLEASE stick to the MAIN IDEA... That's basic grade-school terminology, by the way...

@Kimberly Gauthier...What a wonderful attitude and you are right; many people aren't aware but once they know...."they do better".
There is a quote on my sidebar under pearls of wisdom which makes the latter statement very clear:
"We cannot silence the voices that we do not like hearing. We can, however, do everything in our power to make certain that other voices are heard."

That should be the case but I've been in forums where the distinction isn't that clear. Touché...
