I've always taken responsibility for my actions. I believe that people who give away their "freedom" are the ones that blame everything on everyone else instead of looking at how they responded to a situation. The act of doing "nothing" has a negative connotation to it, however under the right situations doing nothing can calm any situation. Now that I blame everything on myself it's my duty to not only to open my mind more, but to open the minds of others and let them know that they have control over their own destiny.  less

I love who I am and all colors of the spectrum. I personally prefer dark skinned women. The whole light/dark skin drama is just another remnant of slavery from Willie Lynch. In todays society there is an intolerance for differences that makes others feel lower or higher than the next person. Whatever the case may be everyone is human. We all have good and bad to us, but who dictates what is attractive and what isnt? The media is there to entertain, not to educate.  less

In a society that likes to talk, how do you keep quiet about certain things? What kinds of plans should we keep private? Its about discipline. I could sit up here and tell you techniques or ways to get there, but that’s the issue. TELLING each other about whatever and not going off on our own information. In December I took the time out to stop talking… Something I am glad that I did. The silence of my voice allowed me to pick myself apart and examine the world I live in. Not to my surprise was I shocked about the insecurities and fragments in my personality, but at the end of it all I understood that I was not perfect. If I want to continue to be that figure that people turn to for positive energy and reinforcement I must first take the time out to get to know myself now, in the past, and in the future. What kinds of plans should be keep private? We should keep our expectations private. I learned first-hand the devastation that comes from being...    less

I agree that "power is not something is not something that remains on the physical plane." Our thoughts have energy. If you have an idea that's working for you, maybe it could work for other young people. I refer to myself as a think box. Most of my ideas last over a period of time based on the goal I want to achieve. If I truly want to impact the world on a positive note I have to commit myself to it as if it is a hobby. Honestly, the world is in peril and chaos. The men and women who have commited themselves to explointing the world and thriving on greed use power. I need to have the same abilites or more to combat such individuals and be able to impact the world on a positive note. We're no so much nerds/book worms, but we have more mental stimuli to offer. Being a thinker has its flaws, but so does being macho. I'm not saying that all good AA are not assertive, but some of us (like myself) do not man up to certain situations. Yes that's a problem because the "thugs" are the ones that move about disregarding others, but at the same time they get what they want. I see the middle ground, or moreover have an idea of it, and now I seek to get there. Good men will get played, fucked over, and left behind because they wanted good things for the ppl in their circle. At the end of the day we have to teach both young men and women to chase what they want, be stern and assertive about it, and at the same time not kill their respect for self or others.  less

However, I am working on a book that dives into the issues that our generation faces. The systems set up in this country are designed to dismantle and keep Americans confused, which is further reinforced through media outlets. Of those systems happens to be prison and education sadly.

I had an idea of what I wanted to do with my life then that changed. ATM I am redefining myself and what I really want out of life. I'm a good writer, I enjoy helping people and teaching. Right along with you, I have a problem with the abuse of authority. I am not fond of anyone speaking to me in a manner I deem disrespectful. I'm in college learning life experiences and learning to accept everything that comes my way, whether its good or bad. What about African, Caribbean, Latin and Afro-European literature? Our experiences will be always be limited if we take on the attitude of, nothing exists beyond our shores. Africans all over the world have so much to learn from and teach to, one another. First we'll have to acknowledge that we all fall under the category of Africans and we have to accept our family on the continent and the rest of the world and they'll have to accept us. There is an amazing amount of art being created all the time by US but if WE don't recognize it then we're losing our legacy. We all have to make more effort to develop ways to exchange and promote African arts among our fellow Africans and the rest of the world if we want to see our artists gain the recognition that they deserve.  less

Happy New Year everyone! It is a bit late to be saying that. I know it has been a while since I dropped an article, but best believe I am back! Speaking of back, I do not think winter has made any plans to return this year. What caught me off guard was the fall-like weath...

Question: How do you get people to use the power of silence? I learned first-hand the devastation that comes from being let down. Something that is planned out should only be planned out, and never used as a tool to inspire people. My friends tell me all the time “it sounds nice”, but we have to remember that life is random. Just because we speak something into the universe does not mean we will receive that same energy and everything will be ok. How do you get people to use the power of silence? I’d say by example. You’d have to show someone when, and where it’s ok to be silent. If you’re arguing with someone about something that is pointless simply stop talking. Once you establish that the energy wasted on trivial things is pointless what’s there to say about anything? Think about a conversation that you had with a friend about anything. The conversation can be all over the place, but if you do not comment on something that does not matter and focus on the topic at hand you’ll be able to get to point A significantly faster. As impulsive as society is today it is difficult to learn to shut up when you have men and women being paid money to run their mouths about nonsense over the internet, and media. The thing about silence is that it cloaks you in mystery. Take, for example, the ending to a movie. If the movie kept your attention and left an open ending for you to draw conclusions you’re going to want to know more. Why did all of this happen? How will it conclude? What is this? These are question that come to mind when I want to know something. Once you find the answers to things you WANT they stick, whether you read or see the material once or dozens of times after. I can go on for the rest of the day about what we need to do, but at the end of it all it’s about actions. A good friend of mine asked me the other day “What will you do when you wake up and it’s the day after graduation?” All of my words, sayings and action will matter more than any other time in my life. All of the talks about being strong, not giving up, and stirring the spirits of the masses will now be put to the test. I may have to stick to myself, upgrade then chase my dream, however will I be shunned by those that look up to me? That is a question I continue to leave open ended. I am human, I make mistakes. The only mistake I do not want to make is to let someone who looks up to me ONLY look up to me. Look up to me and realize that I am not the end, but a messenger along the road of life. Look past me and continue to reach for humble and moral self satisfaction.

B Ra Carter You say you have your own way. Please share!

Each and every day we take steps to bettering the world, but as long as those higher ups manage to keep men and women at the bottom we have, but so much we can do. A powerful figure must be able to lead the pack effectively to tear down the tyrants the require the exploitation of others.

I totally agree with that. We need to find a way to get our voices heard without being disrespectful.

Formally I have not developed any pieces of work, but I share the information with my peers. However, I am working on a book that dives into the issues that our generation faces. The systems set up in this country are designed to dismantle and keep Americans confused, which is further reinforced through media outlets. Of those systems happens to be prison and education sadly.

I'm not quite understanding what you're trying to say, but revolution and change will not be pretty. I'm not here to prove myself or bicker with anyone. It only causes a rift in the men and women that want to bring about effective change in the world.
