What about African, Caribbean, Latin and Afro-European literature? Our experiences will be always be limited if we take on the attitude of, nothing exists beyond our shores. Africans all over the world have so much to learn from and teach to, one another. First we'll have to acknowledge that we all fall under the category of Africans and we have to accept our family on the continent and the rest of the world and they'll have to accept us. There is an amazing amount of art being created all the time by US but if WE don't recognize it then we're losing our legacy. We all have to make more effort to develop ways to exchange and promote African arts among our fellow Africans and the rest of the world if we want to see our artists gain the recognition that they deserve.  less

There are some writers today complaining that the 99 cent eBook is ruining the game for them.  I’m sorry but that’s nonsense.     This isn’t a new argument. In fact, it’s just another re-hash of an old argument that goes back as far as the early 2000s. &nb...

Over the holiday I read Zora and Me

    by Simmons and Bonds,

Really good by two talented women.
This is the first book about Zora Neal Hurston that is
not by the author or the Hurston group.

They gave the ok for them to write the book about
the author and it is really good.

@Monique Dont give up on finding the right church. You will find one that provides spiritual guidance. No church is perfect, they all have "problems" or "challenges", but seek and pray and God will direct your path.

@Amber I was listening to the DVD about Malcolm X and learned that Maya Angelou know Malcolm X very well. They were good friends and met together on their travels especially when Malcolm X went to African. Very cool She taught in several African countries and is very well traveled and cultured.

@Monique Thank you for those words, the funny thing is in my community I get more respect from whites because Iam educated than I do Blacks that are just as educated as Iam. When I blog I try to blog about what the problems are and the solutions. Being a teacher I mentor, volunteer and teach at elementary and college. People know who Iam and what I do, but when I go to a church and want to have a computer workshop or have a community workshop on Social Media, Technology etc Im often told that it is a good idea, but "we have people for that." Then it does not get done, I do conduct workshops with groups that work with teens and tweens, but on a larger scale I get more whites that want me to speak than Blacks.... @B Ra Carter The media plays a big role in the perceptions and actions of the youth, too many are a bad and detrimental influence. I do not respect rappers, dancers, etc that promote sex, violence, drugs and immoral actions. There is to much on TV , radio, video games that promote this. So Black youth have to take responsibility for what they listen to, read and identify with. It is all about making money and puts our kids in a bad image in society. What is wrong with reading a book about Dr. King, Malcolm X, Carter G. Woodson, Andrew Young???? Or is that too Green or to White for Black kids to do.. @Kimsuccess Milton The educational system does have problems, but parents and there are too many, do not even bother to teach their own kids at home. We have FREE parenting workshops for parents to help them and no one shows up. I work at a Title One school where most of the kids are on Free/Reduced lunch. The kids are talented, intellegent and many are successful, but trying to provide that extra push and extra help is not appreciated and parents still complain about how they hate this teacher and that teacher, but keep their kids in our school Go Figure..... We have had Science Nights, Mentor Nights, Reading Nights theyare attended well, but the kids that really need it are not there. Even when the parents are notified directly about their kids need to be present they still do not show up, but have some food and a party with music there is a full house. So Blacks ultimately have to take responsibility especially parents. The church has lost focus about providing educational resources, but too many churches look at the money and yes some do help because they see a need but not enough are doing it. The few who are working hard just need to continue to help in their own ways to reach as many as possible. Blacks have not reached as great as we should have and not because of Whites, but because there are still to many that project a image of violence, hate (even against Blacks) ignorance to the value of education and lack self respect.
