However, I think that education when obtained is needed to increase options so that our children might have a better chance at becoming productive citizens. Without it, that is just one more handicap to be held against then in the "real world" job market. I read your response under the Forum about Poverty and Education. You mentioned miseducation. What can we do but to encourage obtaining education? What's your suggestion for education??

Women have had to deal with narcissistic know it all's such as yourself, who think they know something, yet don't know and can't possibly understand. We do our best to wean the "undesirables" out of our life. Unfortunately, crap happens and they are in it anyway. So, unless you are in the position to walk the walk, then you will never know the depth of what women have to deal with. Some are able to avoid disaster and some are not. So, your blessing or praise is not needed. Just keep your demeaning comments and thoughts to yourself. And, That is "Setting It Straight".  less

That's something you will never understand. Why? Because you can never be a "Single Mother". Most often the evil, untrustworthy man inside the man that a woman chooses to live her life with is hidden until it's too late. All of a sudden and out of no where, you find yourself with a good for nothing fool. After the evil is revealed, you have to find a way out. If the fool doesn't leave, then somehow the woman has too. Sometimes the only option is to be a single Mother and being a single mother is not easy, not funny, and nothing to joke about. You are left with all the bills, hardships, and struggles that should be shared by two people. You have to be strong and able to show your children the love they need to survive. If we happen to make it thru with our kids healthy, educated, somewhat happy, and out of trouble then we have made a major accomplishment. So "PROPS" that's right "PROPS" to all of us! P.S. Not angry! Just trying to set it straight.  less

What about African, Caribbean, Latin and Afro-European literature? Our experiences will be always be limited if we take on the attitude of, nothing exists beyond our shores. Africans all over the world have so much to learn from and teach to, one another. First we'll have to acknowledge that we all fall under the category of Africans and we have to accept our family on the continent and the rest of the world and they'll have to accept us. There is an amazing amount of art being created all the time by US but if WE don't recognize it then we're losing our legacy. We all have to make more effort to develop ways to exchange and promote African arts among our fellow Africans and the rest of the world if we want to see our artists gain the recognition that they deserve.  less

  • HELP.....DON'T HINDER

Identity is not the problem.  The problem is that The President is an elected official who has to fight the battle of the Republicans, Tea Party, and it looks like as you put it, "his own people."  The role of President is not an easy job.  There is pressure from all sides.  So l...

in the topic Poverty, Education & Violence in the forum Poverty & Education

I agree that there is a lot of violence in some of the predominately Black communities.  However, I don't believe that education is a major factor.  Our children have the opportunity to attend school.  Whether they take advantage of the education offered and provided is another thing.  True enough, a lot of Black families live just above, right at, and below the poverty level.  But, that's not the cause for most of the violence.  Although, the poverty is there, our children still seem to have more material things and advantages than the youth just a few years ago.  I think a lot of the problem is what I call the "I want it now syndrome".  So, instead of working for what they want legally, they choose to find an illegal short cut that leads to trouble.
