What about African, Caribbean, Latin and Afro-European literature? Our experiences will be always be limited if we take on the attitude of, nothing exists beyond our shores. Africans all over the world have so much to learn from and teach to, one another. First we'll have to acknowledge that we all fall under the category of Africans and we have to accept our family on the continent and the rest of the world and they'll have to accept us. There is an amazing amount of art being created all the time by US but if WE don't recognize it then we're losing our legacy. We all have to make more effort to develop ways to exchange and promote African arts among our fellow Africans and the rest of the world if we want to see our artists gain the recognition that they deserve.  less

Once upon a time, I knew I'd be the best prima ballerina, an Oscar winning actress and a millionaire. I knew I could do it, because Anton told me I would.   When we were young, my uncle Anton was my life coach, my playmate, my teacher, my inspiration and my partner in crime. He ...

There are some writers today complaining that the 99 cent eBook is ruining the game for them.  I’m sorry but that’s nonsense.     This isn’t a new argument. In fact, it’s just another re-hash of an old argument that goes back as far as the early 2000s. &nb...

Scripture reference Matthew 6:25-34- especially verse 34.  The Dali Lama once said, “If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry.  If it’s not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. There is no benefit ...

Yes you do make more money when you have your own product to sell. It is still a lot of work but the ROI is worth it. I sell my book and t-shirts. I have also recently started offering affiliate marketing opportunities for others that write on the similiar topics as myself to advertise my shirts and make a profit as well.

Hello Bernice and welcome! I am sure that you will get all you desire out of blogging. When I first began, I wanted to find my voice and get back to the person that I had left at some point along my journey. I definitely accomplished both and it took some courage but the reward has been priceless. You can visit me at rhachellenicol.com and I try to be as transparent in my writing as possible.

I just recently got another awesome opportunity from blogging. I submitted a press release to a local newspaper. Not only were they impressed by my press release but they were curious enough to want to find out more about me. The editor/publisher actually went to my site and she loved it so much they offered me a writing gig. I get paid per article that is published in the paper and they also want me to assist with enhancing their online site. So stick with it, there are so many opportunities that will open up. Consistency is key!

So I had been debating starting another site (which makes this number 3) and after reading everyone's post, I started one. I have posted a total of 3 or 4 articles. I included the amazon affiliate links on the site and I have already gotten 3 purchases. Needless to say I am hooked, but also I have learned a lot since losing my job 2 years ago and so I am sharing with others what I learned and how I got started with my own business, what worked and what didn't, etc. I am definitely trying to learn as much about affiliate mareketing as possible.
Good for you!!! You are an inspiration to me, a new blogger.
I know it was heartbreaking to lose your job 2 years ago, but you found your silver lining in a dark cloud.

Yes it was heartbreaking.  I thought I was finally working my dream job but I was reminded of a business plan that I had written a few years prior doing relatively the same type of work on my own.  So I dusted that business plan off.  Blogging helped me process the transition and my new blog, I hope will inspire others to take the step towards self employment.  There are definitely a lot of opportunities with blogging.
