Here in Detroit we have many [many!] vacant lots and urban gardening generally leads the conversation when it comes to Blacks and the new economy. Our city has an illiteracy rate of 60% [perhaps its 40, I'll clarify]. My [rhetorical perhaps] question is that in our 83% Black city, where our lifestyles are anything but green, outdoorsy or environmental -- what are our chances of meaningful involvement and obtaining a livable wage? How can we get ahead of the 'green gap'? Appreciate your thoughts. less
