  Most mainstream rap songs are fused with lyrics that discuss violence and drugs. Should this be treated as purely entertainment or a threat to the Black community?

  Some forms of Rap Music does influence and glorify violence ! Infact it is self-evident by the way many Rap Artist themselves brag about their gangbangin days in their music , and in their lifestyle ! Some even tell you on award shows that they will always be down for their particular click , then throw up gang signs on national tv at the award shows !

  Absolutely not. Attempting to place blame for people's irresponsible or violent behavior is providing them with a ready made excuse to childishly ignore their sole responsiblity for their actions. It's making it sound like grown men are nothing but puppets on a string, incapable of making a decision to handle conflict or their feelings in constructive ways. Sadly, it is only Black community that allows men to blame anything but themselves for the things they do to hurt others. In the Black community its always someone else'f fault that a fool is violent, uneducated, in prison, jobless, not taking care of his children, etc. In reality, violence and any other antisocial behavior is the fault of no one and nothing other than the offender. The offender MADE A CHOICE to be violent, and it was not rap or any other kind of music that motivated him. Men have been violent since time began, and long before there was crack cocaine or rap music.

  The negative rap music is truly a THREAT to the Black Community! What is an affirmation? It is "the assertion that something exists or is true."
  It can be positive or negative. In the posritive, successful people use Affirmations to train their mind for success. So why can we not accept that negative affirmations work the same way. As people sing these lyrics, set to music (which makes them even more easy to remember), they are negatively affirming or teaching their mind. When they have to make a decision or a spur of the moment choice, all they have are the negative affirmations they have been meditating on. In Joshua 1:8, God commands Joshua to meditate on His word day and night for success. Our community is meditating on drugs, sex and violence day and night. We are witnessing the success of those negative words. I am not blaming the music as it is a THREAT, I am saying the community needs to meditate on more of the positive. We have the choice to listen to positive music or negative music. Then when there is an action to perform, the mind will produce a positive response! It's a mind thing!

  I think how we react to external stimulus is solely controlled by our own strength of mind. Just because you hear something you have to be strong enough to let something come into your mind without controlling your mind.

  I agree with KimSuccess: words have power. While I don't think violent rap music causes people to become violent; but I think it helps them to be apathetic when acts of violence take place. I knew a guy who listened to violent rap music and played violent video games everyday. He smoked weed to self-medicate. When a violent act took place in the neighborhood, he was aloof, detached, and unemotional. He sat back and let the women spring into action. A friend of mine could not understand how someone could be so useless; but many people are apathetic when it comes to violence. I think that's just as dangerous as the violent person.
