The author of these 2 books is the apostle Paul. He founded the church in Corinth. After his leaving, problems arose and some people questioned his authority. These new converts were struggling with their environment and holding on to their newfound faith. Themes in both of these books are loyalties, immorality, freedom, worship, trials, church discipline, hope and sound doctrine. The purposes of 1 and 2 Corinthians is to identify problems in the church, offer solutions, refute false teachings and teach believers how to live in Christ in a corrupt society. AMEN!!! The Bible teaches us that we live in the world, but we are not to blend in it or accept its values. As we go into the month of October, keep in mind that you are to be Christ-centered and different than the world!
