  • Fantasia May Lose "Mahalia" Role Due To Pregnancy by Married Man, NY Post

Members of legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson’s estate are aghast that 2004 “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino has become pregnant by a married man as she prepares to play the Queen of Gospel in the biographical film “Mahalia!”

Producers are also furious with Fantasia, 27, for not telling them about her unexpected pregnancy until she was four months in. “She [initially] claimed that she was putting on weight for the role,” an insider said.

Production of the movie has been pushed back because of Fantasia’s pregnancy with her married boyfriend, Antwaun Cook.

“The family thinks if Fantasia plays the role, it’s going to sully the name of Mahalia,” executive producer Adrian Taylor told us. “They think she’s got the wrong image, having a child out of wedlock.”

Brenda Alston I think that Fantasia is not fully matured. I think that she has a lot of issues to deal with before she can fully understand the role of a woman let alone "Mahalia". When she fully understands GODS role in her life then things will begin to happen for her.

Phenola Moore Fantasia doesn't have a Mahalia Jackson voice. Jackson had a mellow, soothing voice and Fantasia's is more churchy, hollering type. But I know they can train her to sing like Mahalia. Gospel singer Kathy Taylor could have replicated her voice and look.

Denise Turney I think her voice will well. As Phenola said she may need training (as many singers would) to sound like Mahalia, but I think it'll work. Also think her physical appearance works. If they really want her to play the role, they'll wait. Denise www.chistell.com
